2013 Week Four - Birthday Fallout

I'm finally recovered from my birthday weekend of excess and debauchery. (Yes, it was wonderful, thank you!) I was actually expecting to gain a good two pounds from not giving a shit for half a week. Instead I'm happy to report that it was less than a pound. A good week of clean living should get me back on the weight-loss trend. And I'ms till ahead of my 2 pounds per week milestone, so hell yeah!

Monday Weigh-In: 274 lb.
Weekly Weight GAIN: 0.6 lb.
Total 2013 Loss: 6.2 lb.

Back at it! See you next week.

2013 Week Three - Hallelujah!

Finally! After the initial false start, my body figured out I was trying to lose weight and has begun to cooperate. Doing nothing more than counting points and taking a few walks, I've reached caught up to where I wanted to be at this point anyway.

Weekly Weigh-In: 273.4 lb.
Weekly Loss: 6.8 lb.
Net 2013 Loss: 6.8 lb.

I'm gonna be a good boy all week since my birthday weekend is coming up and I will indulge a bit, but then back on full discipline mode.

2013 Week Two - Patient Has Flatlined

Well shit. I guess not gaining is good but I didn't lose. This morning's weigh-in was exactly the same, down to the tenths of a pound.

280.2 lb.
Net Weight Lost in 2013: 0.0 lb.

I'll just remind myself that I'm still down nearly twenty pounds from two years ago, and about fifty pounds down from ten years ago. (And I'll try not to focus on the fact that I'm nearly a hundred pounds more than when I graduated high school.) But this isn't about one week, it's about all the weeks. I'll focus more, keep up the right stuff, and see how I do. See you next week!

2013 Week One - Crawling Back on the Wagon

Happy New Year! I didn't make "resolutions" for the New Year, but I gave the year 2013 a theme ... the Year of Responsibility. One part of that is responsibility to my health. I've set a goal of 25 lb. lost by  Comic-Con in July—so I'll include progress toward my goal as part of my weight disclosure.

Yes, I gained some during the holidays. I was bad about eating badly and with gleeful abandon, knowing that being strict and counting WW points would begin the first full week of the year. (The good news is I actually lost a couple of pounds from an unofficial weigh-in last week.)

I'm resuming my old schedule of weighing in the buff first thing on Monday mornings on my trusty digital scale. Here's where we begin:

Weight: 280.2 lb.

January 7, 2013

BMI is a terrible indicator of actual healthy weight, and if you know history it was never meant to be an indicator of health in the first place ... but it's the standard the health care industry still uses, so I'll suck it up and reveal where I stand at the moment.

BMI: 37

Definitely in the "obese" category. But it's also worth noting that when I was in the best shape of my life at about 215 lb. I was still considered overweight by the BMI standard, and barely within "healthy" weight as a scrawny high school graduate. But there is no doubt I need to seriously work at shedding fat and becoming healthier.

With 26 weeks until July, I have plenty of time to get to my summer goal while losing at a healthy rate. And hopefully get a good 5-6 lb. on my way before my birthday toward the end of the month.

Thanks in advance for any support, encouragement, etc. Hope to have some early progress to report in the coming week!

Holidaze Are Coming

Hi from Starbucks! My day has been turned around and kind of derailed, but life is never dull. My first week back on a healthier mindset has gone well. My Monday morning weigh-in revealed ...

275.2 lb.
Weekly Loss: 3.6 lb.
Net Loss: 3.6 lb.

I'm still over 20 pounds down from when I first began my original diet back in 2011, but at this point I'm only going to track this particular wedge on the weight loss wheel of cheese. The holidays are coming, and I want to get a head start against the feast days. Thanks for your support, all. See you next week!

Back on the Roller Coaster

2011 was the year I kicked ass on the weight-loss front, losing nearly forty pounds. I was focused, disciplined, and got myself to a lower weight and size than I had been since before moving to the land of snow and cheese back in 2001.

Unfortunately, this year I hurt my back, got depressed, and lost all the ground I had gained—and by "lost" I mean that I've piled back on the pounds and my gut made its triumphant return to rotundity. The combination of low activity combined with eating (badly) for comfort had its entirely predicable effect:

I'm fat.

The good news? I didn't gain back all the weight I'd lost. The glass (of fat) is half full, as I only put on some twenty pounds back on since my record-low of last year. The other piece of good news is that my back is not permanently injured, and I can reduce my chance of hurting it again by losing weight and getting into non-round shape.

I've been thinking about a lot of things in my life in the past week, but this is where I talk about my health goals. I stepped on the scale this morning, and will go back to my old Monday-morning "official" weigh-ins starting next week. Here's where I'm starting:

Starting Point:
278.8 lb.

WW point-counting, daily walks, and trips to the gym are happening. I'll keep everyone updated, because last year the weekly blogging and sharing helped keep me honest and focused. I know I'm an attention-whore but I can at least use it to my advantage

Thanks for everyone who's been supportive and encouraged me in the past, and in advance for everyone who does so this time around. My target is 225 lb.—just over 50 lb. down and over 100 lb. down from my highest weight that I hit back in 2004 when health problems and apathy were at their max.

Advice, encouragement, and hugs are all appreciated. We'll see if I can get down at least three pounds in the first week!

Happy Humpday!

I neglected to weigh in on Monday ... but finally remembered before I got the kids up for school today. (Yes, school is already in session. Don't get me started!) Here is where I am:

269.2 lb.
Weekly Loss: 2.8
Total Net Loss: 2.8

(I'm only counting my latest attempt, starting July 23, 2012.) Wish me luck! I gotta long way to go.
